Big Buddha Phuket

Big Buddha in 2012

Over than ten years that we have seen the Buddha statue on top of the hill in Chalong area. It starts built in 2002 on top of Nak Kerd hill in Marvichai posture. The statue height 45 meters (148 ft.) and width 25.45 meters (84 ft.) covers by white jade marble from Myanmar, the weight of the marble approximately 135 tons per 2,500 sq.m. The park opens daily from 06.00 - 19.00 hrs.

Big Buddha has official name is "Phraphutthamingmongkhol Akenagakhiri". The objectives to build this for blessing to His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama 9) for the royal charity. To be form of respect to Buddhism the way of making merit, legend of the land and center of mind. To maintain visitors and worshippers' mind for essence Buddhism and mental development for daily life at Buddhist park.

To visit the place please pay respect by dress properly even though they provide scarfs and sarongs outside but during busy time it's not enough for everybody who needs, it's show your disrespectful to our Buddha and Buddhism who has seen. The weather sometimes can be very hot and humidity but it's not very strict like in Bangkok as Phuket is a tourists attraction.
